Arnhem is one of the Hanseatic cities of the Netherlands and the capital of the province of Gelderland. In the 13th century the Arnhem settlement officially has city rights. In the beginning of the 16th century the city wall of Arnhem was completed, making Arnhem a real fortified city. However, this city wall was demolished again in the 19th century, making Arnhem the first fortified city in the Kingdom of the Netherlands to strip its walls.

Nowadays, Arnhem is known as one of the greenest cities in the Netherlands with many cycling and walking routes through the city and the nearby Veluwe. In addition, Arnhem presents itself with its many well-known theaters and museums as the cultural capital of the east of the Netherlands. The nightlife of the city is diverse and extensive. On the centrally located Korenmarkt and in the Varkensstraat, nightlife enthousiasts will find many grand cafés, delicious restaurants and lively nightclubs. In short: Arnhem is a city for everyone.
